Maine Backyard Campout


July is National Parks and Recreation Month, and we’re inviting you to join the celebration! The Maine Parks and Recreation Association has announced the 2nd Annual MAINE BACKYARD CAMPOUT WEEKEND, which encourages families to turn their backyard into their personal campsite!

Don't have space to camp outside? No worries!! Show us how you got creative! 

Join us 9th-11th, 2021!  Your family can choose to do one night or two! Buxton Recreation will help out with the fun by providing a kit of some of our favorite activities!

 Registered campsites will receive an ULTIMATE BACKYARD CAMPOUT KIT, which will include:






    • Glow stick for each child!


    • Outdoor Safety/Campfire Safety info from the Buxton Fire Department!


    • Backyard Scavenger Hunt!


    • Our favorite campfire stories!


    • S’mores Kit with recipe book!


    • Stamped post card for the camper to mail to a friend or family member to share their experience with!


    • Water Bottle for each child!






 Did we mention that there is a campsite decorating contest? Thanks to MRPA, there is a state wide decorating Contest! 

How to participate:  Decorate your tent or campsite space, take pictures and  post them on social media ( Facebook and/ or Instagram with the hashtag #MaineBackyardCampout 21 to be  in the running for  prizes.

 GRAND PRIZE:  2 nights lodging and a family whitewater rafting trip for 4 on the Kennebec River courtesy of Adventure Bound  www.adv-bound.com
 
Pics must be posted no later than Monday, July 12 to be considered. Winner will be announced  by Friday, July 16, 2021
